GivingTuesday is a National Giving Day

As we wind down from the autumn season and prepare for the holidays it’s a time to reflect and contemplate on the past year. Of course reflection is what prompts us to look to the future. PWA is excited about the annual Giving Tuesday celebration and the opportunity to connect with individuals uniting the community in one goal, to give back.

Most people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday … now we have GivingTuesday, November 28, 2017. A global movement for giving and volunteering that taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time where charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for worthy causes.

GivingTuesday is all about charity!

It’s about creating a movement for giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages donations and volunteering activities that support any and all charities and non-profit organizations.

GivingTuesday was originaly started in the US in 2012 by the UN Foundation, the NYC 92Y and several other community organizations. It was started in Canada by a group of organizations including GIV3, CanadaHelps, and now includes over 4,700 partners. According to data from CanadaHelps, the third annual GivingTuesday increased charitable donations in Canada on top of the previous GivingTuesday’s lift for a total increase of more than 300%.

GivingTuesday is a public movement and everyone is encouraged to get involved. Families and individuals can join the movement by giving and volunteering in whatever ways matter to them. It harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real world change in their community, their region and throughout the globe. It provides a platform to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address humanitarian causes. It also brings together the collective power of unique, like-minded partners including non-profits, corporations, as well as families and friends.

Giving is a lifelong commitment, and a giving day is a special celebration, a reminder to all of us to think of others and our communities as well as our selves. We also encourage giving back throughout the year, whether through donations, volunteering or in whatever other ways we can. GivingTuesday is more than a moment,  it’s a movement.

This November 28th, join the movement and give – whether it’s some of your time, a donation, gift or the power of your voice in your local community. It’s a simple idea. Whether you come together with your family, your community, your company or your organization, find a way to give back.
