The holidays are a very happy time of year for many, but seeing others shopping, preparing lavish meals and sharing presents is also very stressful because it really isn’t an option for many people living with HIV.

PWA’s Holiday Bag Program is a response to the challenges the holidays present to many of our clients. As PWA’s Engagement CoordinatorRoy Schuurhuis states,“Our Holiday Bags will be the only gifts some will receive at all.”

Roy helps organize and plan the Holiday Bag Program and has been doing so for many years. In Roy’s own words, “The objective is to help people during the holidays. It can be a very expensive and hard time of year so the bags are really appreciated.”

This program runs every year in December and on average we bring joy to the lives of over 600 individuals and families. The bags are stuffed with essential household items and a small gift card for groceries.

As Executive Director I know from speaking with clients that what may appear like little things to you and I means so much for people who depend on PWA. Year after year I see our clients put on a brave face – especially during the holidays. But, receiving a gift like the Holiday Bags without the expectation of giving something in return is a truly heartwarming experience.

Receiving a gift like the Holiday Bag helps our clients to feel cared for and valued. It’s a joy to celebrate the season together with a feeling of abundance and warmth. The funds we raise during our year-end campaign will support a number of important projects including organizing and purchasing items for these Holiday Bags.

I’m hoping you’ll help us by making a Special Holiday Gift to PWA. You’ll feel good knowing your end-of-year donation is touching the lives of so many at this important time of year. Your support will have a lasting effect and help bring warmth and hope into the lives of people living with HIV.

On behalf of all the people living with HIV who will benefit from your generosity, thank you.  Please accept my best wishes for a healthy holiday season.
