On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, PWA hosted the 29th Annual General Meeting of Members for the fiscal year 2015/2016.
While following the standard AGM protocols, this meeting was anything but standard.
The meeting was opened with a candle lighting ceremony; acknowledging and thanking the Mississaugas of New Credit First Nations; acknowledging the diverse voices of HIV/AIDS; remembering those who lost their lives to and continue to live with HIV/AIDS; and to remind those present of the challenges and hope in the work we as leaders have ahead of us.
In PWA’s tradition of using stories to communicate the experiences of our work and illustrate examples of what makes PWA a welcoming and healing space we heard from Suzanne Paddock, the incoming Acting Executive Director (read about that here) who spoke about a particular Thursday this past July that perfectly illustrated the complexities of what it’s like to work at PWA. We also heard from Ted Robinson, Co-Chair of PWA’s Friends For Life Bike Rally for 2017/2018, who spoke about what makes the Bike Rally so special and an integral part of the PWA experience.
The evening closed with a recommitment to The Ontario Accord and an invitation for those present to revisit the Accord and if they haven’t done so, and were inclined, to sign the board posted in our agency lobby.
